Methodology

How ActivateFirst scores your funnel.

Every audit runs on the same methodology, applied the same way every time. No vibes, no generic “best practices.” A structured system, honest numbers, and where it counts, real users. Here is exactly how it works.

The belief behind it

The most expensive gap in your funnel is the one nobody owns.

You spend to earn the click. Marketing owns the ad. Product owns the app. But the seam in between, from arrival to first value, is where users quietly leak, and it is usually nobody's job to fix. That seam is what I score.

What gets scored

Two audits, one methodology.

Landing page

The first impression, before anyone signs up. Scored 0–100 across four dimensions.

Onboarding flow

Everything from signup to the moment a user reaches value. Scored 0–100 across four dimensions, informed by eight frameworks.

Both combine AI vision analysis, Google PageSpeed data, and my methodology. The Evidence tier adds real users from your target market.

The landing page rubric

Four dimensions, 0 to 25 each.

Clarity the 5-second test

/25

Can a first-time visitor tell what this is, who it is for, and why they should care, in five seconds? Most pages fail this and never know it.

Friction the single next action

/25

Is there one obvious, low-cost thing to do next, or is the visitor paralyzed by competing choices and up-front asks?

Trust do they believe you?

/25

Real proof, specificity over hype, risk reversal. Claims without backing don’t convert.

Performance speed and mobile

/25

A page that loads slowly or breaks on mobile loses visitors before they read your headline. Scored on real PageSpeed data, not a guess.

The onboarding rubric

Four scored dimensions, informed by eight frameworks.

Time to first value

How long until the user experiences real, observable value? Under a minute is excellent; over ten is critical. This is the master metric. The faster they see value, the more of them activate.

Straight-line path

Every screen gets classified: green (keep it), yellow (fix it), red (it is actively hurting activation). Your score reflects how much of your flow actually moves people toward value.

Friction

Scored across eight usability heuristics per screen: cognitive load, visual clarity, copy clarity, step necessity, decision paralysis, trust signals, motivation, and error handling.

Hooks

The momentum mechanics — investment, reward, social, and progress — that pull users forward and make them stay.

Four more frameworks go deeper

They sharpen the findings, not just the number: page speed as an activation metric, gap analysis (is the user stuck on knowledge, a procedure, or a skill?), a bumper review of 24 guidance mechanisms that keep users from falling off, and a commercial analysis that ties every leak back to what it costs you.

The scoring is honest

A number you can trust, not a mood.

85+
Strong
70–84
Moderate risk
50–69
Elevated risk
under 50
Critical

Most real products score between 35 and 70. An 80+ is rare and genuinely earned. Every score maps to fixed numeric bands, so the same flow lands in the same place on a re-run. You get a number you can trust, not a mood.

The evidence layer

Heuristics tell you where a flow probably leaks. Real users tell you where it actually does.

On the Evidence Audit, five people who match your ideal customer go through your flow while I watch, and you see exactly where they drop, in their words, not mine. Opinion becomes proof.

See where you stand.
