Top findings

  1. 1Credit card form appears before first value delivery: On the 'Try Business for Free' screen (screen 16), Notion surfaces a full billing form with card number, expiry, CVC, and country fields immediately after plan selection — before the user has touched a single Notion page or experienced any product value. This is a high-intent abandonment point for free-plan users and a trust-eroding forced upsell.
  2. 2OTP verification forces a full application context switch: After entering their email (screen 7), users must leave Notion entirely, open their email client, locate the verification code, and return to type it in (screens 8–11). There is no magic link auto-redirect flow triggered by default, adding 2–4 minutes of dead time and creating a P-Gap that breaks onboarding momentum at the earliest possible stage.
  3. 3Profile name field auto-populates with email alias 'eric+may4' instead of a real name: On the 'Customize your profile' screen (screen 12), the name field is pre-filled with the email local part including the plus-alias, which means users must correct a broken default before continuing — adding unnecessary friction and starting the product relationship with a low-quality first impression.
